Gift of Confidence

I had this moments before; moments of poetry. Of beauty and sorrow and the world become. The touch of a universe, in which turns into wonder.  Most often, no more than a glimpse. The moment act as a mirror, all the times I’ve survived the fall, the rolling, and the bruising. All the times that has been sweet, grateful, and loved.

There are always two sides of a coin, head and tail. Two sides of a moment; bitter and sweet. It depends on which moment has caught you. And I have been wondering about life. Does it have two sides? Luck and misadventure. Some people born with abundant love, some of them left behind. Some can get anything they want, but other has to suffer. There are people like us, healthy, but there are people who have to deal with sickness. Cancer.

I work at the hospital. And I have seen people who suffer. Pain. Sorrow. Death. Life may sounds unfair. But there is another side of that. Happiness. Hope. Miracle. And it taught me one important thing; there is nothing definite. It shows me that life has more than two sides. It has its complexity beyond our knowledge. There is grey between black and white.

A person who has to deal with cancer might be the one who will learn about life more than anyone else. They may have their track, and we have our own. But there is a choice to make a bridge. A connection.

At times, I would like to share what I did lately. As you can see on instagram, or any of my older posts, I have a long hair. I have mentioned before that I am that kind of person who attach with hair. It is more than you can imagine how hard cutting it. Last week, I decided to cut at least 25 cm long, in which turns to 30 cm long. I have reasons, and one of that is to donate.

We have been given and now we have to give. It makes balance. Donating is not hard. Giving what we have. People assume that donating means money, but it’s not. I donate my hair to children who suffer from medical hair loss. Alopecia. Cancer. Trichotillomania.

If you want to be a part of this, you may follow these steps:
  1. 10 inches (25 cm) is the minimum length needed for a hairpiece.
  2. Hair that is colored or permed is acceptable.
  3. Hair cut years ago is usable if it has been stored in a ponytail or braid.
  4. Layered hair is acceptable if the longest layer is 10 inches.
  5. You have to make a ponytail or braid before you cut your hair.
  6. Put it in the plastic bag (transparent plastic bag / zipped plastic bag) so it doesn’t get wet or damaged.
  7. Fill up the form.
  8. Send the package!

I plan to donate my hair to Locks of Love, located in Florida, United State. I don’t find any institution at Indonesia, who provides this. Well, I hope one day, they will make an organisation like this. If any of you want to join, you can email me so we can send those hairs together. I might send the package on August. I hope that you want to be a part of this, ask others to join, and if you do share it! You can post on instagram with hashtag : #donateyourhair #giftofconfidence #lookbetterfeelbetter #IMdonating. See you soon!

It’s more than “just hair”. It’s the gift of confidence. Look better; feel better.
